Descanso Gardens in Spring 2011

Descanso Gardens in Spring is glorious!  The photos below give you a sneak preview of what you will see when you visit the gardens in early spring.

descanso gardens children and flowers Families flock to the gardens to see the tulips and daffodils.  While these flower are uncommon in most Southern California gardens--they do better in colder climates-- Descanso has traditionally created these displays.

descanso gardens ceonothus This Ceanothus in the California Native Plant area of Descanso Gardens is commonly called "California Lilac".  It is, however, not a lilac at all.

descanso gardens lilacs Descanso Gardens  specializes in growing true Lilacs (Syringa) that will survive in hot, dry climates.  Lilacs are more commonly grown in cold winter areas.

descanso gardens japanese garden And in the Japanese Garden the azaleas and cherry trees bloom.  Take the path to the east side of the Japanese garden to go to the Lilac Garden.
